The Impact of IT in HappyHealth Hospital

Question: Discuss about the Impact of IT in HappyHealth Hospital. Answer: Introduction This report focuses on a hospital called HappyHealth which is currently facing major drawbacks because they have not embraced the use of IT for their operations. The hospital is using a lot of manual systems to conduct its operations. The few areas that they have embraced IT are proofing to be expensive for the hospital staff. Scope of the study This study was done in HappyHealth hospital. It focused on how the staff is handling the tasks given to them and how the patients are treated when they visit the hospital. The study was done by closely observing the hospital operations and interviewing the staff on how they conduct their activities in order to identify the areas that require to use IT to help automate and ease the work. It also involved interviewing the patients to find out how they are served and treated to identify the areas that would need IT. Problem statement HappyHealth is using manual non-automated systems to conduct internal operations which are proofing to be ineffective and hard to maintain for the staff and thus leading to bad work experience for the staff which at most times inconveniences the patients. This report demonstrates how use of IT would help to transform the operations and help make work easier for all stakeholders.(Moeller, 2007) Research objectives The aim of the research at HappyHealth was to find areas that require use of IT in the hospital for automation and record keeping. Research Findings According to the research done in HappyHealth Hospital the following findings were found about the current systems being used to make work easier by the hospital staff. There is no existing automated system for keeping patient records in the hospital. Records are kept using patient cards There is no existing system for making an appointment in the hospital. Appointments are made using phone calls. The laboratory is still using non-automated methods to do the lab tests. The system is using books to keeps records of the incoming stock and sales. The communication within the hospital is manual whereby the hospital staff communicate by word of mouth. The system has no surveillance system to help enforce security in the hospital premises. Analysis and Solutions The Need of IT According to the research findings, HappyHealth strongly needs IT to help automate a lot of internal and external operations so as to achieve a high degree of accountability and efficient record keeping. The system will help in a lot of operations in the hospital. These operations include; Registration of new patients. The new system will help the hospital staff to register new patients and the records stored in the cloud. The patient is then treated and the all the treatments are recorded in the system under the respective patient. This will eliminate the use of patient cards which can easily be damaged or get lost and which are tedious to use and maintain for the hospital. Use of the new system to keep patient records will help the hospital staff to keep track of the patient as the student record is easy to retrieve upon demand. The system can also help the doctor to see patient treatment patterns based on the patient history. These patterns could infer results that would have been missed by the doctor as humans are prone to error due to cases such as exhaustion. The new system will help the patients to make appointments easily at their comfort of their homes without having to go to the hospital to make an appointment or to make phone calls to the hospital in order f or them to get an appointment. The system will run on the cloud and thus can be accessed by the patients remotely. The laboratory will be equipped with new equipments which will be incorporated in to the hospital system such that when a patient is sent for a lab test by the doctor the tests are done and the results are reflected in the system for that patient. This will facilitate seamless flow of operations in the hospital. The new system will help keep track of incoming stock by recording every item that enters in the hospital and how it is used in the hospital. For communication between the hospital staff, the hospital will use VOIP phones which will be deployed to every room so that the staff can communicate easily and in an inexpensive way as the phones do not need renewal of talk time as long as the physical infrastructure through which they run on is deployed. For payments of the hospital staff the hospital system can be used to pay the employees and store the records in case of future references. For security, the hospital will install IP CCTV cameras which can be incorporated into the hospital management system such that the staff responsible can view live coverage of what is happening from any location. The issue of record keeping will be solved by incorporating the hospital management system as the database being used by the system can be backed up regularly to avoid loss of information in case of disasters. Importance of IT For HappyHealth it would be ideally good to incorporate IT for both internal and external operations as it makes works easier. The new adoption of IT will enhance the safety of record keeping and facilitate customer operations and increase profit return. The communication and security of the hospital will be highly maintained leading to ease of information access and safety of the hospital assets. In the case of clients services, the patient details and medication history is always available as long the hospital keeps every bit of record concerning every patient that attends the hospital. The offering of services will be moderated and be scheduled as the patients will be making appointments depending on the availability of the doctors as there will be an automated remote application that will help the patients book the appointments. Finally the most significant objective of any reason for business operation is to gain the profit, the increase of profit is highly achieved and is contr olled through stock control and patients payments management through which an automatic stock monitoring is implemented and a reporting mode is changed to a simpler and convenient. Requirements for Implementing IT HappyHealth hospital will require a budget plan to decide and plan on the purchase of the management software system, security hardware systems and payment plan for the server leasing or purchase. The purchase of the management software system will range 1000 5000 $ for an averaged system on a good estimate and the purchase of security systems will cost 700 $ on a complete setup. The initial cost is quite expensive but is only incurred once. Other periodical charges may involve server charges if the server in use is leased and a maintenance service fee for systems management. Once the installation of the systems is done, no other much additional charges are expected. However, no matter how much the initial cost is felt as a hard revenue expense, it will be recovered within short period of time. The training of the staff personnel on the use of the management system and the security systems is incorporated in the earlier stated estimated budget amounts. Using New IT In the HappyHealth hospital, the staff members will be trained on how to use the management software system and how to use the security systems. The management software system will allow the registration of new patients, doctor history and record keeping of the patient during consultation, nurse record keeping on patient visit, automated issuing of drugs by pharmacist, use of automated laboratory testing machines, stock management and payroll system module. The manager of the hospital can assign the duties to one of the employees who will oversee all operations done by use of the management software system and the security details collected by the security system. The clients / patients will need a user-friendly interface on the software system that will be easy to use when they want to interact with the hospital staff. The system will facilitate ordering of goods from suppliers by automatically preparing purchase order lists and mailing them to the respective supplier. The system administrator will be able to generate sales reports and use the system to pay other staffs. Advantages of new IT Systems The management software system will allow automated patient record keeping that can be retrieved on requirement and be updated always on every patient visits. The laboratory tests will increase in accuracy and more clients will be served within short period of time as the manual work has been substituted by the digital laboratory testing. The staff payment will be done with a single click without manual calculation of debts or liabilities. The payment process will be facilitated without cases of funds fraud as record is kept in a permanent secure way and a copy of the same record is provided to the staff receiving the pay. In case of any unclear case of funds embezzlement, the records can be retrieved and used as a proof. The security of the hospital assets will be maintained as the surveillance camera system will keep record of every activity in the hospital. Increase of transparency and staff hard work is achieved as the staff activities is monitored through use of the surveillance camera system. Quick flow of operation and decision making is facilitated by the use of software management system. Risks of New IT Implementation The major risk that can arise on adaption of the said IT techniques is the risk of data exposure. If the confidentiality, privacy and security is not held, the management software system will be useless. Therefore the encryption and authentication techniques should be maintained. The storage of data should be done through use of servers which security and privacy is a major policy. If the payroll and profit reports are accessed by unauthorized personnel, the business can collapse or create an opportunity for theft cases. Other risk is the system usage and breakdown. If the users of the system fail to use the system appropriately, the record will provide false data and therefore a false impression to the outside environment especially potential customers who may fear that their records are not handled with care. Maintaining and Monitoring IT Systems To maintain IT in HappyHealth hospital, the following measures must be adhered to: Ensure that continuous system update of the management software system is done so as the system keeps up with continuous changing technology. Ensure that the maintenance of surveillance of security system is done to ensure that monitoring of staff and assets is monitored every moment without breakdown. If any laboratory system is noted to provide unclear data output record or misbehavior on data entry, the system should be serviced or replaced with new one so as correct data record is maintained. The system administrator should ensure that every assigned system user is using the system for business operations appropriately and for every needed time. Conclusion and Recommendation According to the research, I would recommend the HappyHealth hospital to perform the following: Shift from manual to automated software management system first if the initial cost for installing all systems is expensive. They should forego for the system first and later install the surveillance systems. Embrace the systems and adapt quickly to the system by learning how to use the system and ensure every operation is done through use of the system. System administrator should ensure that a clear follow up is done to ensure every system user is comfortable with the system and they are using the systems appropriately. A budget plan should be developed and make a step by step IT systems upgrade in order to achieve the IT technologies with ease. On system installation, management of the systems should be handled with care to prevent any risk from arising and ensure privacy, security and confidentiality is ensured. References Hill, G. (2008). The Mount Pinatubo Eruption

The Mount Pinatubo Eruption In June 1991, the second-largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century* took place on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, a mere 90 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of the capital city Manila. Up to 800 people were killed and 100,000 became homeless following the Mount Pinatubo eruption, which climaxed with nine hours of the  eruption on June 15, 1991. On June 15, millions of tons of sulfur dioxide were discharged into the atmosphere, resulting in a decrease in the temperature worldwide over the next few years. The Luzon Arc Mount Pinatubo is part of a chain of composite volcanoes along the Luzon arc on the west coast of the island (area map). The arc of volcanoes is due to the subduction of the Manila trench to the west. The volcano experienced major eruptions approximately 500, 3000, and 5500 years ago. The events of the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption began in July 1990, when a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of the Pinatubo region, determined to be a result of the reawakening of Mount Pinatubo. Before the Eruption In mid-March 1991, villagers around Mount Pinatubo began feeling earthquakes and vulcanologists began to study the mountain. (Approximately 30,000 people lived on the flanks of the volcano prior to the disaster.) On April 2, small explosions from vents dusted local villages with ash. The first evacuations of 5,000 people were ordered later that month. Earthquakes and explosions continued. On June 5, a Level 3 alert was issued for two weeks due to the possibility of a major eruption. The extrusion of a lava dome on June 7 led to the issuance of a Level 5 alert on June 9, indicating an eruption in progress. An evacuation area 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) away from the volcano was established and 25,000 people were evacuated. The following day (June 10), Clark Air Base, a U.S. military installation near the volcano, was evacuated. The 18,000 personnel and their families were transported to Subic Bay Naval Station and most were returned to the United States. On June 12, the danger radius was extended to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the volcano resulting in the total evacuation of 58,000 people. The Eruption On June 15, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo began at 1:42 p.m. local time. The eruption lasted for nine hours and caused numerous large earthquakes due to the collapse of the summit of Mount Pinatubo and the creation of a caldera. The caldera reduced the peak from 1745 meters (5725 feet) to 1485 meters (4872 feet) high is 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) in diameter. Unfortunately, at the time of the eruption Tropical Storm Yunya was passing 75 km (47 miles) to the northeast of Mount Pinatubo, causing a large amount of rainfall in the region. The ash that was ejected from the volcano mixed with the water vapor in the air to cause a rainfall of tephra that fell across almost the entire island of Luzon. The greatest thickness of ash deposited 33 centimeters (13 inches) approximately 10.5 km (6.5 mi) southwest of the volcano. There was 10 cm of ash covering an area of 2000 square kilometers (772 square miles). Most of the 200 to 800 people (accounts vary) who died during the eruption died due to the weight of the ash collapsing roofs and killing two occupants. Had Tropical Storm Yunya not been nearby, the death toll from the volcano would have been much lower. In addition to the ash, Mount Pinatubo ejected between 15 and 30 million tons of sulfur dioxide gas. Sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere mixes with water and oxygen in the atmosphere to become sulfuric acid, which in turn triggers ozone depletion. Over 90% of the material released from the volcano was ejected during the nine-hour eruption of June 15. The eruption plume of Mount Pinatubos various gasses and ash reached high into the atmosphere within two hours of the eruption, attaining an altitude of 34 km (21 miles) high and over 400 km (250 miles) wide. This eruption was the largest disturbance of the stratosphere since the eruption of Krakatau in 1883 (but ten times larger than Mount St. Helens in 1980). The aerosol cloud spread around the earth in two weeks and covered the planet within a year. During 1992 and 1993, the Ozone hole over Antarctica reached an unprecedented size. The cloud over the earth reduced global temperatures. In 1992 and 1993, the average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was reduced 0.5 to 0.6 °C and the entire planet was cooled 0.4 to 0.5 °C. The maximum reduction in global temperature occurred in August 1992 with a reduction of 0.73 °C. The eruption is believed to have influenced such events as 1993 floods along the Mississippi River and the drought in the Sahel region of Africa. The United States experienced its third coldest and third wettest summer in 77 years during 1992. The Aftermath Overall, the cooling effects of the Mount Pinatubo eruption were greater than those of the El Nià ±o that was taking place at the time or of the greenhouse gas warming of the planet. Remarkable sunrises and sunsets were visible around the globe in the years following the Mount Pinatubo eruption. The human impacts of the disaster are staggering. In addition to the up to 800 people who lost their lives, there was almost one-half of a billion dollars in property and economic damage. The economy of central Luzon was horribly disrupted. In 1991, the volcano destroyed 4,979 homes and damaged another 70,257. The following year 3,281 homes were destroyed and 3,137 were damaged. Damage following the Mount Pinatubo eruption was usually caused by lahars - rain-induced torrents of volcanic debris that killed people and animals and buried homes in the months after the eruption. Additionally, another Mount Pinatubo eruption in August 1992 killed 72 people. The United States military never returned to Clark Air Base, turning over the damaged base to the Philippine government on November 26, 1991. Today, the region continues to rebuild and recover from the disaster.

Early Childhood Ed. Observation Assignment Essay

Early Childhood Ed. Observation Assignment - Essay Example Depending on the group and the individual child the teacher needs to have a good learning environment applying the prerequisite skills to harness and enhance the abilities of the children. This paper looks at the different activities and behaviors that have been observed in one of the centers and critically analyses what the center needs to improve or change in order to develop their children better. This paper uses the Merchantile Kindacare facility in Boston where there I observed children from the age of 3 to five years for three hours from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday. I had to go to the staffroom and observe the children’s timetables where I found that the children had a similar program for most parts of the week except for Friday where they had to rest and get off the center early. The facility is located in a serene environment where there are few noises that come out of the neighboring areas. The center has made sure that industries and other forms of facilities that may cause disturbance are far away from the area (Otto, 2014). The center has also equipped their classrooms with sound proof equipments that are meant to shield the classroom from any form of noises from the outside environment. There are building blocks and also dressing up clothes that are evident in the playing ground and the interactions that the children are able to form. They look confident when handling these forms of playing tools and are fascinated by the colors. The building blocks are especially popular with the kids with each child wishing to make their own castle and mimic their own homes through the use of the blocks. The dramatic plays that are directed by the teachers are also very popular with the children as they are looking to be the best at the plays (Koralek, 2003). There are also a lot of games that the children are engaged in looking to be competitive and match the wits of their peers. The materials that the center is using are well organized with the setting

The Social Impact of Gansta Rap Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Social Impact of Gansta Rap - Essay Example Compounding these negative opinions of rap music were the highly publicized incidents between gangsta rappers and law enforcement. Many gangsta rappers have been caught up in the imagery and the bravado of their lyrics as the distinction between art and life are often blurred. One rapper turned actor, whose career and life exemplified this tension was Tupac Shakur". (Article Exertp) Additionally, "The blend of black influences, and wild response by the younger set made rock and roll appalling and threatening to the older generation. Attempts to control the influence of rock often turned comical; after several previous television appearances became controversial, Elvis Presley was famously shown from the waist up (to avoid offending viewers with his suggestive hip swivels) on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. Hollywood was quick to capitalize on the trend, turning out a series of rock-and-roll themed exploitation films designed to thrill teenagers and horrify adults". Thomas Nagels Moral Luck

Thomas Nagels Moral Luck The concept of moral luck has been assessed by many forbearers, It is the idea that that the actions people make depend on factors out of their control, yet we continue to treat them as the object of moral judgment. In Nagels Moral Luck, Nagel identifies the problem moral luck as a conflict between our actions and principles that most share about mortality. He brings up a plausible idea that people cannot be morally judged for what is not their fault, or by factors that are out of their control. Although we know that there are certain things in life we cannot for see, we do make moral judgments about people based on factors out of their control. Suppose a drunk driver kills a child, we would call him a murderer but if the little girl had not been playing on the road at the wrong time we would call him a fortunate driver. On the other hand, when someone tries to do something noble like save someone from a burning building but drop them which causes them to land to their death, the act was still good in and of its nature but people will not give him the same admiration if he would have saved the person successfully. The unfortunate rescuer could not have for seen any obstacles in her rescue. Nagel sees this as, the problem of moral luck. A persons moral standing should not be affected by luck or chance, and the fact that luck plays such an essential role in determining whether a person is good or bad, morally, in the eyes of his peers is an inaccurate judgment. We may wonder if the problem Nagel presents is better thought of as a problem of luck or if its really about control. Nagels concern is whether luck plays a role in determining a persons moral standing or things that are out of ones control are affecting her moral standing. The answer is both. Luck should be present where control is lacking; they are one in the same. This is significant because although we may call it luck with lack of control there are times when we have some idea of what will happen. For example, if the sun rises tomorrow, it will be completely of anyones control but we wouldnt go so far as to say we are lucky that it happened, there is a likelihood that it would happen regardless of anyone having control over it or not. The problem with moral luck is that there are times when luck does, in fact, make a moral difference. Two kinds of differences discussed in Nagels essay. The first is the case of the unfortunate driver, (the driver who killed a child) is no worse a person than the fortunate driver. Likewise, as we cannot hold the fortunate driver responsible for the death of a child we cannot hold the unfortunate driver responsible for the death of the child since they were just made different by luck. The question of moral worth then comes into play. Does luck make a difference in a persons moral worth, or in what one is morally responsible for? It is not quite clear which side Nagel is taking. He briefly refers to the problem of moral luck as a fundamental problem of moral responsibility, but mostly, his worries are about blame. Will the unfortunate driver himself be rated morally worse than the fortunate driver? Nagel indulges in both ideas, asking if the unfortunate driver is more to blame and if he is a worse person than the fortunate driver. Although these questions are asked inseparably, we cannot make sense of the idea of holding someone morally responsible of killing when they have not and lowering their moral rating. Essentially, there is very little that occurs in our lives that we have full control of the outcome so how can we place an accurate moral judgment on an individual that has no complete control of the outcome of their decisions. Nagel points out that there are four different types of luck that play into our moral decisions. The phenomenon of constitutive luck is what kind of a person you are, not only what you do deliberately but what you are inclined to do and what is in your nature. Another is luck of circumstance which is the kinds of problems and situation one encounters. The last two have to do with causes and effects of actions. Luck in the way ones actions and projects turn out and luck in which how one is determined by past experiences.

Pakistan Day Celebration

Pakistan day is observed on 23rd march every year. It is an important day in the history of Pakistan. The Muslims of India demanded a separate homeland for themselves through a resolution called Pakistan resolution or Lahore resolution, This year also we celebrated Pakistan day with traditional zeal and fervor and renewed a pledge to make the country strong, progressive and prosperous Islamic welfare state. The day dawned with 31 gun salute in federal capital Islamabad and 21 gun salutes in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in all mosques. It was a public holiday.National flags were hoisted on all public and private buildings. Newspapers published special supplements featuring articles highlighting the importance of the day. They also printed rare photographs of the historical events. Radios and television channels aired special programmes including talk shows. The highlight of the day was the armed forces parade which was held at Jinnah sports stadium. The president and prime minister took the salute of the parade. Similarly in Karachi, the day was celebrated with great honor and dignity. The Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh visited the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.They laid floral wreath at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum. The National museum Karachi arranged a special exhibition in connection with the Pakistan Day. This day is indeed one of the most important days in the history of our country. Energy crisis or Load Shedding of Electricity in the town. The people of Karachi know it very well that Karachi has become a city of problems. All these problems go together to make the life of Karachi ties very difficult. Perhaps the most serious of these is what we may call energy crisis there have been an acute shortage of electricity in our city during the last ten years. As a result the load shedding has become unavoidable. In fact the whole country has fallen a victim into this menace. But the situation is worst at Karachi and with the passage of time the duration of load shedding has greatly increased . Generally we have to pass six to twelve hours without electricity every day. Load shedding is the basic problem which gives rise to many other problems. People cannot sleep at night when the temperature is at its peak. The business of shopkeepers is also hampered particularly the people working on computers and owners of photo state shops are the worst sufferers.During the darkness the criminals get a free hand and there is an alarming increase in crimes during load shedding. The patients in the hospitals also have to suffer as all the hospitals do not have generators or ups, so it is clear that everybody living in Karachi has to undergo great difficulties. Promises in the reduction in the duration of load shedding are never fulfilled so the problem remains as it was years ago. The Book I like Most. The Holy Quran is my favorite book. It is the name of Allah’s book which has been revealed upon the last Prophet for ma nkind through the angel Gabriel. It is most often read and memorized and the most influential book in the world from literary point of view. Holy Quran is considered as the specimen of purest Arabic. It is a master piece of Arabic language and literature. The Quran is guidance for the whole humanity. It is essentially a code of human conduct. It covers all the aspects of human life. It offers guidance to those who seek it. It also defines the causes of decline of the nation. It prompts man to be practical in his daily life. Its importance is recognizes even by the non-Muslims. Its teachings are practically rational. The knowledge in the Holy Quran is not merely knowledge of religious affairs but also the knowledge of physical and other phenomenon of life. There are thirty chapters’ one hundred and fourteen surahs and six thousand six hundred and sixty six verses (Aayats) in it. By the grace of Al-mighty Allah, I have memorized many surahs with their Urdu translation. Holy Quran is the book which gives me guidance about both the worlds. It tells us what reward we can get if we do good deeds. We can get physical as well as spiritual guidance from it. In short Holy Quran is not only for an individual or a nation but also for the whole universe. Pakistan Day Celebration Pakistan day celebrations.Pakistan day is observed on 23rd march every year.
